Woodbine Casino Expansion

With one day left until the City of Toronto votes on the proposed Woodbine casino expansion, a community and labour coalition has made clear that unless it is made a signatory in a legally binding community benefits agreement, the northern Etobicoke community of Rexdale is not going to give its support to the project. The move comes after Theo Lagakos, president of Local 533 of the Public Service Alliance of Canada, which represents workers at Casino Woodbine in Toronto, called for its immediate closure on. While the Woodbine proposal made sense (and still does), the idea of building a downtown casino was half-baked and doomed to fail. The bundling of the two proposals cast the Woodbine expansion in. Ontario Gaming GTA LP is developing the Woodbine Casino Expansion Project, a multi-phase, mixed-use development project located in Ward 2 Etobicoke North in Toronto. The project is part of the major overall expansion of the existing Woodbine Racetrack, which will remain open for the duration of the project. In addition to voting on the topic of casino expansion at Woodbine Racetrack, City Council on Tuesday, Council also voted on the issue of casino expansion in downtown Toronto. Councillor Layton.

Future of Woodbine Casino in Toronto: Expansion to include everything from live dealer tables childcare services.

It’s been years since the community of Toronto, Ontario began discussing the upcoming expansion of Woodbine Racetrack. Horse racing was the primary attraction when the track first opened in 1956. Then in 1999, the province installed a few thousand slot machines, launching them under the title OLG Slots at Woodbine. At that time, this was more than enough to appease the mass of local gaming fans, as well as those visiting from afar.

Today, however, gambling isn’t the same entertainment vertical it used to be. Not nearly so many people come out to see the ponies race anymore. Slot machines are fun, and electronic table games serve a purpose, but most players want more. They want live dealer tables. They want more entertainment and dining options.

The government of Ontario and city of Toronto recognize this need. A few years back, they agreed to an expansion at Woodbine that would see all of this, and more. As construction gets underway, new and exciting announcements are being made, including the introduction of the city’s first live dealer table games, and a childcare facility for employees and patrons alike.

When the city first announced the official approval for the expansion, a few items were already on the docket. New restaurants were to be added; more slot machines installed; live table games with human dealers that don’t rely on electronic lottery-style outcomes. What we didn’t know what what kind or how many.

Now that the ground-breaking has begun, it’s been confirmed that approximately 300 live dealer table games are coming to Woodbine Casino. That’s double the amount of the virtual tables now featured on the gaming floor. It hasn’t been stated (as far as I know) whether the electronic games will remain, but with 300 new tables coming, I have to assume most, if not all, of the lottery-based tables will be removed.

Hopefully, the old video poker games are on their way out, too. Even those were designed with a lottery-picking chip, eliminating the ability to invoke any kind of strategy. Casual gamblers who don’t know better may enjoy them, but to the rest of us, those games are a joke.

By the Numbers – Now and Looking Ahead

Woodbine

For the last few years, the casino at Woodbine has offered upwards of 3,000 slot machines and electronic gaming tables. The slots take bets ranging from $0.01 to $5.00, featuring everything from Wheel of Fortune progressives to Michael Jackson’s Mighty Millionaire Slot.

The virtual table games are still on the floor, offering selections of blackjack, three card poker, craps, let it ride, high card flush, Caribbean stud poker, Mississippi stud poker, and Fortune Cup virtual horse racing. Alongside these games, new live dealer tables are already appearing. There are currently 50 of them – not nearly as many as are planned for the expansion ahead – but with the license from OLG already in hand, why wait?

The new live dealer tables at Woodbine casino in Toronto already include some of the most popular table titles in North America. There are five blackjack variants to choose from; Blackjack Switch, Free Bet Blackjack, 21+3 Blackjack, Spanish 21, and Blazing 7s Blackjack. You’ll find live poker games like Caribbean stud, Mississippi stud and three card poker. Mini-baccarat and squeeze midi-baccarat are both available, along with American roulette, casino war, let it ride and high card flush.

Woodbine to Offer Family-Friendly Services

Last but not least, confirmed just weeks ago, Woodbine has committed to building a childcare facility for patrons and employees. Up until now, a childcare centre was only speculated. Thanks to One Toronto Gaming, $5 million in funding for the project has been guaranteed.

Its exact location is yet to be announced, but it’s expected to be situated near enough to the casino to provide easy access for parents who work at Woodbine. The facility will accommodate children aged 0 to 4-1/2. Space permitting, local parents would also be able to make use if the childcare centre.

Casino Woodbine is one of Toronto’s beloved gambling places first used as a racetrack in 1874. In 1956, after more than 80 years, it became an official racetrack for thoroughbred racing and has held prominent races such as the King’s Plate. The property has become a staple of the Toronto community today and has slowly expanded and updated its technology.

Casino Woodbine has a remarkable selection of more than 100 action-packed table games and 3,500 slot machines that you can play 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Table games include roulette, baccarat, and blackjack. Visitor numbers range from 25,000 to 30,000 for racetrack events, and these numbers increase every year.

Woodbine is also available online for those who don’t want to converse with one another in person, but table games and slot machines are also popular at this casino. Virtual roulette and stadium gaming are fun choices, and memberships are available for frequent visitors. This echoes the general sentiment on a number of land-based casinos which also offer their games online, delivering their promise of taking the games closer to the customers.

Casino Woodbine Plans Expansion

As the popularity of Woodbine has grown over the years, the racetrack has continued to expand. Its ownership has partnered with Metrolinx and Queen’s Park to build an expansion in the Etobicoke neighbourhood. The expansion has an estimated cost of $75 to $90 million and is expected to be a major tourist attraction for Toronto as well as a revenue generator and major employer. Funds were recently appropriated by the One Toronto Gaming partnership. Growth potential is considered to be enormous: Woodbine already employs 6,000 workers each day and is expected to hire another 5,000 with the expansion.

Woodbine offers many complimentary services for its patrons, including shuttle services from the Toronto Pearson International Airport and nearby hotels. However, as part of the expansion, the Metrolinx public transportation will reach the area, which has the potential to bring in more visitors.

Woodbine will diversify its offerings to include cultural destinations, food and dining, office space, shopping, and plans to add residential living areas. The goal for Woodbine Casino is to become not only a hub of activity for gaming and gambling, but also to be a destination for everyone visiting the Toronto area. Blueprints show that the expansion is making the effort to retain the racetrack ambiance and increase the overall architecture for the area. Walkways, additional parking in a seven-level garage, and updates will allow the casino to resemble a city within a city.

What Benefits Does the Expansion Bring to the Community?

When the Toronto City Council approved the plan to expand, it required that 40% of new hires come from the local area. The increased employment will be great for Toronto, and the additional revenue generated by visitors will ensure that Toronto’s economy continues to thrive. Due to the influx of visitors, the expansion will include an area for child care services in a new child care zone. This expansion will be used by casino visitors as well as employees at Casino Woodbine, allowing visitors and employees to work or play while their children are receiving care.

The expansion, although somewhat controversial, will develop an area of Toronto that is near the airport and could transform Toronto’s economy and nightlife. The changes will happen in several phases, gradually transforming the area and commerce of the community. Eventually, Woodbine will introduce a live entertainment facility and hotel tower with 12 stories and nearly 550 rooms, as well as retail buildings ranging from one to three stories high.

The updates have been long-awaited by developers, casino attendees, and Toronto’s community for many years, and it is an exciting time for Ontario. Whether you’re excited to work at Woodbine or planning your next weekend getaway here, be sure to keep abreast of new developments and updates as they occur. The new retail, dining, bars, and game areas have the potential to supply an unlimited amount of fun for Toronto and Casino Woodbine.
